2010 FAU BAND FESTIVAL

Congratulations to our Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble for their performances in the FAU Band Festival. Both groups sounded fantastic and we had many band directors and judges compliment us on the quality of their performances - Bravo!  We are extremely proud of our kids!   

2010 - FBA SOLO & ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL

2010 JAZZ BAND MUSIC PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT

Congratulations to our Spanish River Silver Sound Jazz Band which received a Superior Rating at their annual Music Performance Assessment last week! We received many fine compliments from those who heard our kids perform and we are extremely proud of our students and their accomplishment.  

2010 FMEA - FLORIDA MUSIC EDUCATORS' ASSOCIATION - ALL STATE BAND

Congratulations to senior Jason Lee (bassoon) and freshman Sarah Weinstein (percussion), members of Spanish River's Wind Ensemble, on being selected as participants in this year's prestigious All State Band.  Our congratulations to all of our students who auditioned.

2009 ALL DISTRICT JAZZ HONOR BAND

Congratulations to David Greenstein, Bradley Miller, Eric Picard and Ian Picard for being selected to participate in the Florida Bandmasters Association All District Jazz Band. Students from throughout Palm Beach County auditioned for this prestigious group and we were honored to have four students accepted from Spanish River Community High School.

2009 BOCA RATON HOLIDAY PARADE

On Wednesday, December 9th community businesses, churches, schools, and civic organizations came together in the spirit of holiday cooperation and fun at the annual City of Boca Raton Holiday Street Parade. The annual Boca Raton Holiday Street Parade entertained everybody! Our Silver Sound Marching Band joined more than 2,000 participants to brighten up the season in holiday style. 

2009 FLORIDA BANDMASTERS ASSOCIATION MPA

Congratulations Band and Guard students and parents on earning the highest possible scores at out annual district assessment (MPA). Our kids performed on and off of the field with talent and professionalism. Not only has our group increased significantly in numbers, but the quality of the shows keep getting better and better. Thank you to all of the parents who are making this marching season a big success. There is simply no way we could do it without you and we appreciate all of your help!

2009 FALCON SOUND INVITATIONAL MARCHING COMPETITION

What a great job our students did at the Falcon Sound Invitational Marching Competition, held by the Flanagan High School Band. 32 bands performed at the event, and our group scored a 77.44; almost eight points higher than they did the previous week at the Boca Cavalcade of Bands. In addition, the group also earned the following:

Superior , Visual 
Superior , Brass
Superior , Color Guard
Superior , Woodwinds
3rd Place in the 4A Class (the first time we have ever competed in 4A!)
Drum Majors, Kevin Hershey and Ian Picard, also earned “Superiors with Distinction”! 

What a great day it was! Thank you to all of the parents who donated their time and energy to make the day a BIG SUCCESS!  

2009 CAVALCADE OF BANDS COMPETITION

Congratulations on a great start to this year’s marching band season! We are extremely proud of the way our group performed off and on the field at the Cavalcade of Bands last week. We earned superior ratings in Music, Auxiliary (Color Guard), and General Effect, and our overall score was 10 points higher than last year’s Cavalcade performance- that’s an AMAZING Improvement!!! Thank you to all of the parents who helped to make the day a big success.   GO SHARKS!

9/11 REMEMBRANCE CEREMONY - September 11, 2009

People gathered across America to honor September 11 victims on the eighth anniversary of the attacks. The Fire Chief's Association has teamed up with the City of Boca Raton and Boca Raton Fire Rescue to host a 9/11 Memorial Ceremony at the Mizner Park Amphitheater.  The even included a 21 Gun Salute, Taps, and the sounding of the Traditional Bell Salute. Our Spanish River Silver Sound Wind Ensemble had the distinct honor of performing two selections at this well attended emotional event.


 

2008-2009 SCHOOL YEAR: 

2009 SPANISH RIVER WINTER GUARD 

The Varsity Winter Guard placed second in World Championships! The Junior Winter Guard also had an amazing season. Our Junior Varsity and Varsity teams have both won first place awards at their first two competitions - Premier held at Santaluces High School on Saturday January 24, 2009, and John I Leonard Winter Guard Invitational held on Saturday January 31, 2009. This is an incredible accomplishment that not many schools have acheived. Spanish River Winter Guard is the talk of all the participating schools.  Our varsity team is in the Scholastic A Class this year. Congratulations to the Varsity Winterguard for earning 1st place at the Scholastic A Fort Lauderdale regional on Saturday February 7, 2009! Congratulations to Brian and Devon and all the girls.   Thank you to the Floor Crew and the Winter Guard parent volunteers who make this program possible!!  Go Sharks!

2009 ALL DISTRICT HONOR BAND

Thirteen students from Spanish River High were selected to participate in the Palm
Beach County All District Honor Band. They are: Bradley Miller, Kristine Yhang, Ian Picard, Monica Bello, Jason Lee, Keith Chambers II, David Greenstein, Katie Lee, Eric Picard, Sam Newmark, Mariela Moen, James Kobayashi, and Kelly Horner. Congratulations!!! Spanish River was proud to host the event for practices and the performance at the Countess De Hoernle Theatre featuring guest conductor Robert Sheldon.

2009 STATE SOLO & ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL - NAPLES, FL

Jason Lee, Katie Lee, Sam Newmark, Eric Picard, Ian Picard, travelled to Naples to perform in the State Solo and Ensemble Festival where Jason earned a "Superior" on bassoon and Katie earned a "Superior" in one percussion category and a "Superior with Distinction" in another percussion category. Wow!

FBA SOLO AND ENSEMBLE 2009

Boca Raton Community High School was the location for two days of extensive performances by our Silver Sound Concert Band members.  Our students performed fabulously earning many superior ratings for our solos, small ensembles and large ensembles.  Way to go Sharks!  Our students great success continues to demonstrate their hard work and dedication to music.  Congratulations to all of our students on their outstanding performances.

The following students earned Superior ratings which is the highest attainable:

James Kobayashi, Eric Pelz, Jason Foley, and Eric Picard earned a superior with their trumpet
quartet.

Two percussion ensembles, one woodwind choir and one brass choir earned superior ratings as well.

2008 Florida Bandmaster Association MPA Assessment

Congratulations to all of the students for a truly superior performance at the FBA MPA! The Silver Sound Marching Band and Guard earned Superior (the highest) ratings in all five captions (Music 1, Music 2, Marching and Maneuvering, Auxiliary, and General Effect)! 

Our fantastic students accomplished perfection.  They maintained great poise as they performed in the rain.  The quality of their sound was beautiful.  The guard was poetry in motion.  We were so proud of our students and our band program. Thank you for our dedicated group of parent volunteers so that the day could run smooth and successful. Way to Go!!!  

2008 Tarpon Springs Outdoor Music Festival, Tampa, FL

Our marching band and guard were in great form and took home the following awards: 

  • Second Place in the AAA Division
  • Fourth Place Overall:  for the entire competition
  • Best of Brass in the AAA Division
  • Third Place Overall for the Guard entire competition
  • Third Place Overall for Percussion entire competition
The trip was a spectacular success and we thank Mr. White. He was the driving force behind this event and it went off without a hitch.  The staff at the hotel complemented us on the behavior of the kids, the day at Busch Gardens was a blast and we returned to school and were ready for dismissal right on schedule. The band program has given so much to our students. For all of them, it is the social, emotional, and artistic highlight of their high school experience. Thank you Mr. White for all you do for the students; your dedication, long hours, and musical leadership.
WINTER CONCERT 2008

The holiday season was in full swing at The Countess De Hoernle Theatre. Performing to a full house was a joint concert of the band and chorus programs of Spanish River High School.  Included were the Spanish River Winter Guard, Silver Sound Jazz Band, Silver Sound Symphonic Band, Spanish River Percussion Ensemble, various smaller ensembles and the Spanish River Advanced Vocal Ensemble and Spanish River Chorus I.  Spanish River's choral groups performed under the direction of Rita Bolling and the bands under direction of Craig White.  All of our students gave an amazing performance and got everyone clapping and humming along to some of our favorite holiday classics as well as a variety of other pieces. 

BOCA RATON HOLIDAY PARADE 2008

The Spanish River Marching Band featuring our fine musicians and fantastic color guard performers particiated in the City of Boca Raton Annual Holiday Parade to a jammed packed crowd!  On lookers lined the streets and all who attended had a very festive and enjoyable evening.  The weather was simply beautiful - that is what South Florida living is all about!  Our students enjoyed the opportunity to perform for the community and the applause and cheers they received as they marched the parade route was extremely rewarding. 

FALL CONCERT 2008

The Countess De Hoernle Theatre was the venue for the Spanish River Silver Sound Fall Concert.  Performing to a full house was the Silver Sound Jazz Band, Silver Sound Symphonic Band, and our guests the Omni Concert Band and Omni Symphonic Band.  Spanish River's bands performed amazing under the direction of Craig White, Director of Bands and the Omni Middle School students performed under the direction of their Band Director William Castillo.  The performances included some spooky themed and classic selections.  All groups performed exceptionally well and mastered extremely advanced music for such an early part of the concert season!

It takes a great deal of support from our hardworking and dedicated band and guard families!  Thank you for making our games, competitions and events a success.  Our students appreciate all of the time you contribute to making our band and guard programs a fantastic experience for all!
